In 1886 a man named H.H. Wilcox had a vision that became the reality like no one could ever have expected. He purchased some land in Southern California that his wife deemed "Hollywood" and the legend began! DeMille became synonymous with big movie productions that required lots of people and, therefore, lots of space and housing. The formerly agricultural town of Hollywood began to burst at the seams. Soon other industries came to town to compliment the influx of the movie industry, and Hollywood now stands as the entertainment capitol of the world.
